Cardiovascular Associates specialize in cardiac, thoracic and vascular
surgery. This consists of surgery of the heart, lung and blood vessels.
The most common cardiac procedure is coronary artery bypass, but cardiac
surgery includes repair or replacement of the valves of the heart, repair
of congenital defects, and implantation of pacemakers and defibrillator
devices. Common thoracic procedures include surgery for biopsy of the
lung or removal of lung lesions. These procedures may be done without
opening the chest by using the video endoscope or may be done by more
conventional chest surgery. Vascular surgery includes surgery for treatment
of aneurysms or obstruction of the arteries by atherosclerosis. New techniques
include use of balloon dilatation and stent placements.
The purpose of this website is to provide a summary of the
functions of the heart, lungs and blood vessels, the diseases that typically
affect these organs, treatments that are employed, and how these impact
you as the patient and your family. Only certain sections may apply to
your specific situation. In addition, there will be questions that you
do not find answered here. Please call our office at 251-639-0505 or 251-438-1200.
